Four months into 2026, air passenger traffic rose strongly, with international passengers increasing by more than 22%, supporting double-digit growth for the aviation sector since the start of the year.
Data from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam show that the total number of passengers through airport terminals in the first four months reached over 46 million, up nearly 18% year-on-year.
International passengers were about 19 million, up over 22%, while domestic passengers exceeded 27 million, up 15%.
Freight throughput through airports reached 616 thousand tons, up 17%.
For domestic carriers, passenger traffic reached nearly 21 million, up 12%.
Separated figures show international passengers of about 7 million, up more than 6%, and domestic passengers of about 14 million, up 15%.
Freight carried by domestic airlines reached over 155 thousand tons, up more than 3%.
The aviation sector has remained positive in early 2026, with airport operations and flight operations reporting no accidents of level A, and no major incident of level B or high-risk level C.
In airport operations, the system recorded 4 safety incidents at level D and 1 at level C.
Flight operation management recorded 4 new incidents involving unmanned aerial vehicles near Da Nang International Airport, directly affecting flight operations.
In response, authorities reported to the Ministry of Construction and are coordinating with stakeholders to review UAV/UAS activity and develop procedures. A draft guideline for receiving and processing information about drones at airports is being finalized for issuance.
Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) urged airports to strengthen airspace control and limit the impact of lasers and drone objects on civilian aviation. Operating units continue to coordinate with local authorities to monitor and raise public awareness of flight safety regulations.
