Chase Elliott won at Martinsville Speedway in the No. 9 UniFirst Chevrolet, delivering his first victory of the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season. The win was also the first of 2026 for both Hendrick Motorsports and Chevrolet.
Elliott led 84 laps and secured the victory after a decisive short-pit strategy coordinated by crew chief Alan Gustafson. With heavy competition throughout the race, the timing of Elliott’s pit stop proved pivotal in positioning him to defend the lead late in the event.
A critical pit stop on Lap 261 helped Elliott gain the track position needed to hold off Denny Hamlin by 0.565 seconds.
The victory carries additional meaning for Elliott and the team. It came exactly 11 years after Elliott made his NASCAR Cup Series debut at Martinsville in 2015. It also marked Elliott’s 22nd career win and his first win in the UniFirst primary colors since the 2020 All-Star Race.
Following the win, Elliott moved back up from fifth to fourth in the standings, now 104 points behind the top spot.
UniFirst, as the Official Workwear Provider for Hendrick Motorsports and sister company Hendrick Automotive Group, highlighted the milestone as a reflection of its partnership with the organization. David Katz, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing at UniFirst, said the team’s performance and the sight of the UniFirst “U-Mark” in victory lane at an iconic track was a proud moment for the company’s “16,000+ employee Team Partners.”
