On April 2, 2026, Hanoi's Police Department's Investigation Bureau charged Vu Minh Chau and Vu Minh Tu, together with two company accountants from Bao Tin Minh Chau Co., Ltd., with violations of accounting regulations causing serious consequences. In the investigation, Chau said: “I directed my son to use a personal account to receive the company's revenue and used two software to manage real business operations and report taxes.” The founder of Bao Tin Minh Chau also admitted having “made mistakes that led to the need for legal action.” Investigators found that the company had established a parallel data-management system to conceal part of the revenue from gold and jewelry. The accountants were instructed to use in-house software such as Hivi Gold, Fox AI and Excel to track all real transactions; Misa was used only to prepare tax declarations after data had been filtered and aggregated. Authorities determined the real total revenue of Bao Tin Minh Chau from 2020 to 2023 reached about 13,700 billion dong, averaging over 3,400 billion per year. By using the two-book accounting system, about 9,700 billion was omitted, resulting in a state budget loss of about 150 billion. Currently, the police are continuing the investigation; after Chau's arrest, Bao Tin Minh Chau operated normally “to protect the rights of the people.” The company pledged that all gold bullion products supplied to the market meet standards for fineness, weight, and quality.
