In light of airlines continually reducing flights and cancelling routes due to pressures on fuel costs, the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) has issued a directive calling on units to prioritise passengers’ interests and to deploy timely support plans. To safeguard the public’s rights amid these disruptions, the CAAV requires airports to cooperate closely with airlines and to actively develop and implement immediate passenger-assistance measures for those affected by changes to flight schedules, cancellations, or route adjustments. The regulator also requires agencies to ensure strict security, safety, and order at airport areas. The cancellation of flights is expected to generate a surge in demand for overnight aircraft parking, so airports should plan ramp and apron coordination carefully and report any arising issues promptly. Measures to protect passengers were proposed as domestic and international flight schedules undergo large-scale reductions. Specifically, from April 1, Vietnam Airlines halted seven routes, including segments from Cat Bi to Buon Ma Thuot, Cam Ranh, Phu Quoc, Can Tho, and from Ho Chi Minh City to Van Don, Rach Gia, Dien Bien. The national carrier projects that if fuel prices hold at 160-200 USD per barrel, it may have to cancel up to 700-1,700 pairs of flights per month in Q2 (a 10-20% capacity reduction). VietJet also plans to reduce total operating output by 18% in April, including substantial frequency cuts (10-28 flights per week) on routes such as Hanoi-Cam Ranh, Ho Chi Minh City-Tho Xuan, Ho Chi Minh City-Cat Bi, and Ho Chi Minh City-Bangkok. Bamboo Airways is expected to cut more than 50% of capacity, maintaining only 15-17 flights per day from April, down from 35-36 per day previously. Pacific Airlines also plans to cut 8-30% of capacity in Q2, focusing on ill-timed slots and off-peak periods. Despite facing a difficult cost challenge, Vietnamese airlines remain committed to balancing resources, prioritising operations on core routes (Hanoi - Da Nang - Ho Chi Minh City) to support political, economic, and social objectives and to minimise the impact on essential travel demand of the public. Market observations show positive efforts from some carriers. Sun PhuQuoc Airways remains among the few that continue to operate at 60 flights per day thanks to secured fuel supply through April. Vietravel Airlines is expected to add two aircraft to raise frequency to 28-30 flights per day to meet travel demand during the peak period 30/4-1/5 and the summer of 2026. Regarding international routes, carriers are also striving to maintain schedules in key markets to protect the long-term interests of passengers.
Premium gym chains are entering a “golden era” that is ending or already in decline, as rising operating costs collide with shifting consumer preferences toward more flexible, community-based ways to exercise. Long-term memberships are shrinking, margins are pressured by higher rents and facility expenses, and competition from smaller, more personalized…
