The CT.33 expressway is proposed to run from a connection with the Ben Luc – Long Thanh expressway to a connection with the Chau Doc – Can Tho – Soc Trang expressway, with an estimated length of about 150 km. The total investment is expected to exceed 90 trillion dong and would be implemented under a public–private partnership (PPP).
The People’s Committee of Vĩnh Long Province convened a meeting to review the CT.33 expressway investment proposal. The project is intended to strengthen coastal connectivity in the Mekong Delta region with Ho Chi Minh City, linking major localities including Ho Chi Minh City, Tiền Giang, Ben Tre, Tra Vinh, and Soc Trang.
CT.33 is planned to be approximately 150 km long, with four lanes. The roadbed width is about 25 meters, and the design speed is 100 km/h.
Investor representatives presented three route options for CT.33:
The investing company proposed that the People’s Committee of Vĩnh Long serve as the competent authority to implement the project under PPP. The proposed funding structure is 70% from the state budget and 30% from investors.
Mr. Nguyễn Trúc Sơn, Vice Chairman of the Vĩnh Long People’s Committee, urged relevant agencies to continue reviewing and finalizing project documents in line with approved planning. He highlighted the need to clarify the basis for route selection, investment sequencing, funding structure, and socio-economic efficiency, and to research resource mobilization while ensuring alignment with other transport infrastructure projects.
In a meeting with the Minister of Construction in mid-March, provincial leaders urged prioritizing CT.33 in the 2026–2030 period, funded by the central government budget. The aim is to address increasing traffic on National Highway 60 when the Đại Ngãi Bridge is completed, expected in late 2027 or early 2028.
Minister Trần Hồng Minh urged investors to study routing adjustments to ensure cohesive connections with existing and under-construction infrastructure, maximize investment efficiency, and meet local transport needs. He also called for studying elevated expressway options (cầu cạn) to address construction material constraints.
