At the 11th National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front on the afternoon of May 12, Hoang Dinh Thang, a Member of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and President of the Association of Vietnamese People in Europe, highlighted the contributions of Vietnamese communities in Europe and proposed measures to strengthen the Front’s role in the new situation.
Mr. Hoang Dinh Thang said there are more than one million Vietnamese people living, studying, and working across many European countries. He noted that the community is concentrated notably in France, Germany, the Czech Republic, Poland, and Russia. He described Vietnamese people in Europe as a relatively highly educated group with good integration, increasingly affirming their position in host societies.
He added that the community also serves as an important bridge to promote Vietnam’s cooperation with European countries across multiple fields, including economy, culture, science and technology, and education and training.
According to Mr. Hoang Dinh Thang, in recent years, with attention from the Party, the State, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and relevant agencies, the system of Vietnamese associations in Europe has been continuously strengthened and developed.
He pointed to the Union of Vietnamese People in Europe, established in 2016, saying it has gradually affirmed its role as a hub linking the community, preserving ethnic identity, and looking toward the homeland.
With a spirit of solidarity, responsibility, and attachment to the country, the Union has actively implemented action programs and responded to campaigns and patriotic emulation movements launched by the Vietnam Fatherland Front.
Mr. Hoang Dinh Thang cited outcomes including:
Drawing on practical activities of the Vietnamese community in Europe, Mr. Hoang Dinh Thang proposed continuing to innovate how overseas Vietnamese are connected and mobilized in a modern, flexible manner. He said this should include expanding the use of digital platforms to broaden interaction and promptly capture the community’s thoughts and aspirations.
He also called for further promoting the Vietnam Fatherland Front’s role in supervising, providing comments on, and participating in the formulation of policies related to overseas Vietnamese.
The proposals further emphasize:
Representatives of the Union of Vietnamese People in Europe affirmed that they will continue to closely accompany the Vietnam Fatherland Front, contributing to strengthening the power of the overseas Vietnamese community in pursuit of building a prosperous and happy Vietnam.
The congress also discussed themes including strengthening the role of the advisory council in social supervision and criticism, promoting the Front’s role in consolidating the great national unity in the new phase, and innovating Front activities under new conditions.
