In the morning session on April 6, SJC bullion buy prices were broadly posted at 170.1 million VND per tael, while selling prices were at 173.1 million VND per tael. Compared with the earlier morning selling price of 176.7 million VND per tael, buyers faced a loss of 6.6 million VND per tael. During the morning, the buy-sell gap narrowed to 3 million VND per tael, 500,000 VND lower than the previous weekend. Mi Hong recorded the smallest gap at 2 million VND per tael.
The 170.1–173.1 million VND per tael range was also quoted by DOJI, PNJ, Bao Tin Minh Chau, Bao Tin Manh Hai, Phu Quy, and Ngoc Tham. Compared with the close on April 4, bullion prices fell by 900,000 VND on the buy side and 1.4 million VND on the sell side. Ngoc Tham saw a 900,000 VND decline on both sides.
In the southern market, after two sharp declines within the first two hours of opening, SJC bullion at Mi Hong fell more than other brands. By 10:00, Mi Hong’s buy and sell prices stood at 170.7 million VND and 172.7 million VND per tael.
For jewelry, SJC 4-number-9 rings traded at 169.9 million VND buy and 172.9 million VND sell per tael and remained unchanged through the morning. Compared with the April 4 close, buy and sell prices for 4-number-9 jewelry were down 1.4 million VND per tael.
During the first week of April, SJC bullion buyers incurred losses of more than 6.5 million VND per tael. For 4-number-9 jewelry, buyers lost 6.6–7.5 million VND per tael, with Bao Tin Minh Chau and Bao Tin Manh Hai buyers facing losses up to 8 million VND per tael.
Plain round 9999 jewelry and 9999 jewelry traded by Doji were quoted around 170.1–173.1 million VND and 169–172 million VND respectively by 10:00. Doji reported the highest jewelry price on the day.
Globally, as of 10:00 on April 6, spot gold fell more than 1.4% to about 4,628 USD/oz. Using Vietcombank rates (including tax and fees), the spread between domestic bullion and world gold generally stood at about 24.51 million VND per tael. For 4-number-9 jewelry, the spread ranged from about 11.41 million to 24.51 million VND per tael depending on brand.
