Google has launched a new voice-recording app for iOS called Google AI Edge Eloquent, positioning it against existing speech-to-text tools such as Wispr Flow, SuperWhisper, and Willow.
The app is available at no cost. After downloading and installing speech recognition models based on Gemma, users can record directly on their phones. As users speak, the transcription appears on the screen in real time. When recording stops, the app automatically filters out filler words such as “uh,” “um,” and “er” to improve conciseness and clarity.
Users can refine the displayed text using built-in transformation options, including summarizing key ideas, rewriting in a formal style, and shortening or expanding the length. The app also allows users to disable cloud mode to run entirely on-device without an internet connection. With cloud mode enabled, it uses Gemini models on the server to clean the text.
A key feature is the ability to import a list of keywords, proper nouns, or industry terms from the user’s Gmail account to help the app recognize specialized vocabulary more accurately. Users can also add words to this list themselves.
Google AI Edge Eloquent stores the history of all sessions and supports searching within it. The app can display the number of words spoken in the most recent session, reading speed in words per minute, and the total number of words recorded to date.
At launch, the app is available only on iOS. The App Store description indicates an Android version is coming soon. On Android, the app could be set as the system-wide default keyboard and include a floating button, similar to Wispr Flow, enabling users to start recording from any screen.
The introduction of Google AI Edge Eloquent reflects growing user interest in AI-based voice-recording apps as speech recognition models continue to improve.
