The government has approved the dossier for the plan to establish Dong Nai City as a centrally administered city. The decision reflects Dong Nai’s development and is expected to create new opportunities while also introducing management and infrastructure challenges for the region. Under Resolution 95/NQ-CP, the Government assigned the Ministry of Home Affairs to coordinate with relevant agencies to complete required procedures to ensure the transition is carried out smoothly and in line with regulations.
Earlier, on 28 March, during the first session of the Đồng Nai Provincial People’s Council for the 2026–2031 term, important resolutions were adopted. These included recognizing that Đồng Nai meets criteria for a Class I urban area and approving the policy to establish a centrally administered city. The provincial approvals are described as crucial prerequisites for implementing the proposal.
The article notes that Đồng Nai already satisfies core urban criteria, with technical standards being refined through a roadmap toward an urban-type I development.
Under national master plans and regional plans, the newly established Đồng Nai City is expected to develop as a model of an “industrial capital, modern urban, logistics hub and high-tech agriculture.” The stated goals include raising living standards and creating a business-friendly environment intended to attract both domestic and foreign investment.
It also highlights Dong Nai’s strategic geographic position as the gateway of the Southern Key Economic Region, noting the city’s role in supporting national sovereignty defense and socio-economic development.
Alongside the opportunities, establishing a centrally administered city is expected to bring challenges, particularly in managing and developing urban infrastructure. Local authorities will need to mobilize resources to upgrade technical infrastructure, digital infrastructure, and social infrastructure.
The article also points to the need to reorganize the urban administrative system according to a tight and feasible roadmap. It emphasizes that close coordination among all levels of government, along with active participation from the business community and residents, will be required.
In the context of integration and development, Dong Nai is expected to maximize its advantages to grow sustainably and comprehensively. The decision is presented as both recognition of the province’s efforts and achievements and a strategic step in the country’s socio-economic development, with the article concluding that careful preparation and strong implementation will be key to building a modern, sustainable, and livable city.
