Government approves plan to establish Đồng Nai city under central government. The government recently issued Resolution No. 95/NQ-CP dated 6 April 2026 on the dossier for the proposal to establish 10 wards in Đồng Nai province and the establishment of Đồng Nai city under central government. The resolution states that the Ministry of Home Affairs will lead and coordinate relevant agencies to incorporate comments from government members, finalize the report, the proposal, and the draft resolutions of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly on the establishment of 10 wards, together with the draft National Assembly resolution on establishing Đồng Nai city under central government. The Minister of Home Affairs is authorized to sign the report, the proposal, and the acceptance, explanation, and revision of the dossier on behalf of the Prime Minister. Any issues arising beyond authority should be reported to the Prime Minister for consideration and decision. Earlier, on 25 March, the 2nd Central Conference of the 14th tenure agreed in principle to establish Đồng Nai city under central government, assigning the Government to finalize the dossier for submission to the 16th National Assembly for consideration at the first session. Đồng Nai is located in the Southeast region, with a history of over 325 years. After merging with Bình Phước, the province covers more than 12,000 square kilometers, with a population of about 4.5 million, becoming a dynamic growth pole of the southern key economic region. Adjacent to and directly linked with the Ho Chi Minh City megacity, Đồng Nai is also a convergence point for multiple economic corridors and strategic connection axes, serving as a bridge to the Central Highlands, the South Central Coast and the Mekong Delta. In 2025, Đồng Nai's GRDP rose by 9.63%, exceeding the government target by 1.13%. GRDP at current prices reached 677,932 billion VND, up 84,468 billion VND; per-capita GRDP reached about 150.86 million VND. Đồng Nai hosts all forms of transport including roads, railways, waterways and a seaport. When Long Thành airport becomes operational, the province will form a multi-modal connectivity network, boosting trade and supply chain connectivity. Currently Đồng Nai has 89 planned industrial zones, attracting nearly 2,300 projects from 45 countries and territories, with registered capital over USD 44 billion. The economic structure continues to shift toward industry-construction accounting for nearly 55% of GRDP, services 26%, agriculture- forestry-fisheries over 12%. Currently, the country has six centrally administered cities including Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Hue, and Can Tho.
