Hanoi Police address gold purchases made with appointment slips

According to Hanoi City Police, regarding residents buying gold with appointment slips at business locations, this is a civil transaction between the people and the enterprise. If the business cannot deliver, then upon request, whenock, and denunciation, the police will continue to clarify. On April 6, Hanoi Police provided information about a case of violations of accounting regulations at Bao Tin Minh Chau Co., Ltd. (Hai Bà Trưng, Hanoi). In response to questions from reporters about companies selling gold via appointment slips, Colonel Chu An Thanh — Head of the Economic Police Department of Hanoi Police — said that through the investigation, the police also confirmed that the company sold gold to residents using appointment slips. "Currently, Bao Tin Minh Chau Gold and Silver Company is operating normally. We are creating conditions for the company to operate to ensure people’s rights," Thanh said. Thanh also said that the unit has not received any comments from residents during the process of buying gold with appointment slips. "For residents buying gold at Bao Tin Minh Chau, this is a civil transaction between the people and the enterprise. If the enterprise cannot repay, then upon request, whenock, or denunciation, the police will continue to clarify later," Thanh said. Regarding the origin of the gold material seized, the investigation is continuing to clarify and will be handled in accordance with the law. Ms. Pham Lan Anh — Director of Bao Tin Minh Chau Co., Ltd, representing the company — said that currently, all transactions at the company are continuing normally. "For those who have received appointment slips for gold or money, we commit to paying back gold or money in full, exactly on the date stated on the appointment slip," she said. According to the company representative, due to high customer traffic, the company needs to balance supply, production time and completion to ensure quality before selling to customers. Regarding the case of violations of accounting regulations, Hanoi Police said they have prosecuted the case, indicted the defendants: Mr. Vu Minh Chau — former Director of Bao Tin Minh Chau; Mr. Vu Minh Tu — Head of Independent Assistant (Chau’s son) and two company employees. Investigators found that Chau and Tu directed staff to use two accounting software systems. From late 2024 to now, Chau directed Tu and staff to delete all data from the accounting software. A review of 2020-2023 data showed actual revenue about 13.7 trillion VND higher than declared revenue, causing state losses of about 150 billion VND.
