On the morning of 7 April, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Court opened the trial of defendants Lê Quang Thung, former acting chairman of the board and CEO of the Vietnam Rubber Group, and Nguyễn Thị Như Loan, former chairwoman of the board of Quốc Cường Gia Lai Joint Stock Company, along with 20 co-defendants. The case concerns alleged violations related to land plot 39-39B Ben Van Don.
The defendants face charges including violations of regulations on management and use of state assets causing losses and wastage, bribery, receiving bribes, abuse of power while performing official duties, and negligence causing serious consequences.
To facilitate the proceedings, the court summoned 93 people with interests and rights involved, along with more than 30 lawyers.
The trial is scheduled to run from 7 April to 10 April. Judge Nguyen Thi Ha, Deputy Chief of the Criminal Court of Ho Chi Minh City, presides.
At 9:30 a.m. on 7 April, the first testimony was given by defendant Nguyễn Thị Như Loan. At the start of the examination, the trial panel checked the personal background of defendant Truong Hue Van.
In court, Truong Hue Van confirmed she was born on 21 March 1988 in Ho Chi Minh City, with education level 12/12, Vietnamese nationality, and Kinh ethnicity.
Regarding residence, she stated she typically resides in Gia Lai and currently lives on Tran Quoc Thao Street, District 3 (old), Ho Chi Minh City.
Before being indicted, she said she was the general director of Windsor Real Estate Management Group Joint Stock Company and denied ever holding the position of chairwoman of the board of Quốc Cường Gia Lai when asked by the court.
On family background, she stated her father is Truong Chi Trung and her mother is Lam Thi Hoa, both alive. She said she is married and has two twin children born in 2016. She also stated that she has no criminal record.

At 8:00 a.m., Nguyễn Thị Như Loan was brought to the court. The defendant attended the hearing. She repeatedly consulted with her lawyer before the trial began.
