On the afternoon of April 7, the National Assembly voted to approve the resolution appointing Le Minh Hung, a member of the Politburo and Head of the Central Organisation Commission, as Prime Minister for the 2026–2031 term.
Earlier, General Secretary and President To Lam submitted the list of nominees for the National Assembly to elect the Prime Minister, Vice President, Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court, and Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Court.
The National Assembly discussed and voted to approve the list to elect the Prime Minister, the Vice President, the Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court, and the Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Procuracy by electronic voting.
Subsequently, the National Assembly voted to approve the resolution to elect Politburo member and Central Committee Secretary Le Minh Hung, a representative of the XVI National Assembly, as Prime Minister for the 2026–2031 term.
As a result, 495/495 deputies participating in the voting supported the resolution to appoint Mr. Le Minh Hung as Prime Minister for the 2026–2031 term. Thereafter, the new Prime Minister Le Minh Hung took the oath.
According to the 2013 Constitution as amended, the Prime Minister is the head of government, responsible to the National Assembly for the government’s activities and the duties assigned. The Prime Minister reports on the government’s work to the National Assembly, the National Assembly Standing Committee, and the President.
The Prime Minister is elected by the National Assembly from among its members and has the following duties and powers:
