LinkedIn has begun testing an AI labor marketplace model in an AI training-focused job market that is emerging as a promising field. According to Business Insider, the platform will pay users up to $150 per hour for participating in chatbot training across domains including programming, finance, and healthcare.
A LinkedIn spokesperson, part of Microsoft, said AI training is currently one of the fastest-growing jobs in the United States. The initiative is being rolled out in a pilot phase.
The role of an “AI trainer” primarily involves evaluating chatbot response quality, testing operational limits, and contributing to improvements in system performance.
LinkedIn has posted more than a dozen public job listings for AI training roles. Compensation varies by specialty. Excel or finance specialists can earn up to $100 per hour, and nursing positions can similarly reach up to $100 per hour.
Senior software engineers who also serve as AI trainers can reach up to $150 per hour. Other roles include language experts—such as German and Nordic language specialists—who can earn up to $100 per hour. “Red team” or AI system testing roles are listed at about $40 to $50 per hour.
LinkedIn also rolled out an automatic notification feature intended to help users quickly identify AI training opportunities.
The move places LinkedIn in direct competition with fast-growing startups in AI labs. Players mentioned in the report include Mercor, which raised its valuation fivefold to $10 billion in under a year, and Surge AI, owner of a data annotation platform valued at about $24 billion, according to Forbes.
The development reflects a new form of freelancing tied to the AI boom, supporting the growth of startups that provide AI training services to major clients such as Anthropic.
Despite rapid growth, the market also carries risks, particularly around data security. Scale AI previously exposed sensitive client and contractor data across hundreds of Google Docs before addressing the issue. More recently, Mercor faced a serious data breach affecting contractor information and triggering a wave of class-action lawsuits.
In this context, the AI labor market is described as promising but challenging, especially as security and data governance have not always kept pace with technology development.

Premium gym chains are entering a “golden era” that is ending or already in decline, as rising operating costs collide with shifting consumer preferences toward more flexible, community-based ways to exercise. Long-term memberships are shrinking, margins are pressured by higher rents and facility expenses, and competition from smaller, more personalized…
