National Assembly Chair Urges Renewed Momentum and Confidence for the New Term

The Chairman of the National Assembly urged leaders of party organizations and the Delegation of National Assembly deputies to focus on preparation work to ensure the success of the first session, creating momentum and renewed confidence for the new term.

Preparation meeting ahead of the 16th National Assembly’s first session

On the morning of April 5, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Mẫn chaired a meeting of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly’s Party Committee with bloc leaders, delegation heads, and deputy heads responsible for National Assembly delegations from provinces and cities ahead of the first session of the 16th National Assembly.

He congratulated bloc leaders, heads of delegations, and deputies for their roles, emphasizing that disciplined leadership and unity within the delegations will help deliver a successful session.

Focus on policy understanding and consensus-building

The Chairman said that before each session, meetings with bloc leaders, delegation heads, and those in charge of delegations are crucial to provide full information, explanations, and exchanges. This, he said, helps ensure each member clearly understands the Party’s major policies and supports broad consensus in the National Assembly.

Key agenda items for the first session

At the first session, the National Assembly will conduct high-level personnel work for the state apparatus. It will also review and pass eight draft laws and one normative legal resolution.

The session will decide major plans on socio-economic development, defense and security, national finances, public investment, and public debt repayment over the next five years.

Leadership test under tight schedules

He reiterated General Secretary To Lâm’s remark that in difficult times and tight schedules, many important tasks are opportunities to affirm the Party’s leadership, the efficiency of governance, and the effectiveness of the political system. He described it as a test of leadership across levels, adding that leadership, command, resilience, and the capacity to bear pressure and heavy workloads can only be demonstrated through work.

Call for unity and coordination

Tran Thanh Mẫn urged leaders of party blocs and National Assembly delegations from provinces and cities to uphold unity and solidarity, strengthen close coordination with relevant agencies, and lead preparation efforts to ensure the success of the first session of the 16th National Assembly, creating renewed momentum and confidence for the new term.

Schedule and opening session

The first session will be held in a concentrated format at the National Assembly House in Hanoi and is expected to last about 11 days, divided into two periods: Period 1 from 6–12 April and Period 2 from 20–23 April, with reserve days on 24–25 April.

At 8:00 AM on April 6, the opening session will take place at the Dien Hong Hall, National Assembly House, and will be broadcast live on VOV1 and VTV1.
