On the morning of April 6, with 100% of the attending deputies voting in favor, the National Assembly passed a resolution electing Tran Thanh Man, a member of the Politburo and former Chairman of the XV National Assembly, to the post of Chairman of the XVI National Assembly. Immediately after the resolution was adopted, Tran Thanh Man took the oath of office.
In remarks before the entire National Assembly and voters across the country after the oath, Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed gratitude to the voters of Ho Chi Minh City for trusting him to be elected as a deputy for the XVI term and to Members of Parliament for trusting him to hold the post of Chairman. He described it as a “great honor and a profound responsibility” before the Party, the State, the voters and the people.
Chairman Tran Thanh Man said: “In this solemn moment, I pay deep respect and infinite gratitude to President Ho Chi Minh; I also thank the leaders of the past, revolutionary veterans, the heroic mothers, the heroes of the armed forces, and the families of martyrs; I would like to extend thanks to the Central Committee of the Party, the Politburo, and the Secretariat, and to General Secretary To Lâm; I also thank the National Assembly deputies, the voters, and the people at home and abroad; the organizations and individuals who have helped and supported Vietnam so that the country can step confidently into a new era, the era of the nation’s rise.”
According to Chairman Tran Thanh Man, the country is at a historic moment. While he said he is proud of the achievements of the National Assembly over the past 80 years, he noted that the Parliament’s duties are “heavy but honorable.” He said the XVI National Assembly will continue to inherit the achievements of previous terms, combining “wisdom, political resolve, the aspiration for reform, and the spirit of serving the people.”
He also stated that the National Assembly will strive to be truly the people’s representative body, the highest state power, and a living embodiment of the socialist rule of law, with the goal of building “a prosperous people, a strong country, democracy, justice, and civilization.”
To fulfill constitutional duties and powers, Chairman Tran Thanh Man pledged to devote himself to the country and the people. He said that, together with the National Assembly, the Standing Committee, the parliamentary agencies and all deputies, the body will continue to innovate, promote digital governance, and pursue a “Parliament of the digital age,” leveraging artificial intelligence to improve the quality and effectiveness of legislative work and to ensure the execution of measures.
He urged the Party’s Central Committee, the Politburo, the Secretariat, and especially General Secretary To Lâm, to continue paying attention to and guiding the National Assembly’s work. He also called on leaders and former leaders of the Party and State, the Fatherland Front, and Vietnamese compatriots abroad to continue contributing ideas and support so the XVI National Assembly can complete the tasks entrusted by the Party, the State and the people.
The event also included greetings from General Secretary To Lâm, who presented flowers to congratulate Chairman Tran Thanh Man. The coverage further notes ongoing efforts to reform lawmaking to unlock development and strengthen legislative capabilities for Vietnam’s future.
