April 6, 2026 marks a milestone as Vietnam hosts a pan-Asia environmental technology hackathon. The competition, named Asian Hackathon for Green Future, offers a total prize of 24,000 USD and is organized by three units under Vingroup (the Pham Nhat Vuong group): Green Future Fund, VinUni University, and VinTechTalent Club. It targets students and postgraduate students across the continent.
To reach the podium, teams will tackle three core environmental challenges. The organizers describe the event as the first Asia-scale green technology competition held in Vietnam, aiming to find and develop creative technology solutions for a sustainable future.
A hackathon is a coding competition (CodeFest) held over a short period, usually 24 to 48 hours (sometimes 36–72 hours).
The term combines “Hack” (to find creative, optimized solutions through programming) and “Marathon” (a long, persistent run). In a hackathon, programmers, designers, UX/UI experts, project managers, and other participants work in teams to develop a technology product—such as an app, web platform, hardware, AI, or software—from an idea into a working version within a tight timeframe.
The main goal is not perfect code, but to solve a real problem set by the organizers (or an open topic). Participants are expected to demonstrate creativity, teamwork, and the ability to realize ideas quickly. Hackathons also typically provide opportunities to learn, network, and sometimes connect with investors or job opportunities.
Hackathons can be hosted in person, online, or in a hybrid format. They often include mentors, workshops, cash prizes, gifts, and sometimes startup incubation opportunities.
