Vietnamese Culture Day this year may allow workers to take four consecutive days off. The 24th of November each year is planned to become Vietnamese Culture Day and a paid holiday. Many have proposed rearranging the work schedule so that workers can enjoy a four-day break. Resolution 80/2026 of the Politburo designates November 24 as ‘Vietnamese Culture Day’. This is a paid holiday intended to honor and develop culture, while also enhancing the people's spiritual life. To implement this resolution, the government is drafting a parliamentary resolution on breakthrough policies and mechanisms for cultural development. Among them, a clause would grant workers holidays with pay on Vietnamese Culture Day. Notably, on this day, public cultural and sports facilities will open for free to serve the people. The content is expected to be submitted to the National Assembly for consideration at its first session of the XVI National Assembly and could be applied in 2026. However, since November 24 this year falls on a Tuesday, many unions and workers have proposed a plan to rearrange working days. Specifically, moving Monday (Nov 23) to the following Saturday as a compensatory day off. If accepted, workers would enjoy a four-day continuous break from Nov 21 to 24. The Vietnam General Confederation of Labor says it is continuing to collect feedback from the grassroots and will coordinate with relevant agencies to propose a more suitable plan in line with workers’ realities. The goal is to improve welfare and contribute to stabilizing labor relations. Currently, Vietnamese workers have 11 official holidays in a year: New Year’s Day (1 day), Lunar New Year (5 days), Hung Kings Memorial Day (1 day), the period around April 30 and May Day (2 days), and National Day (2 days). If the resolution passes, the number of holidays will rise to 12 days. Vietnamese Culture Day would then become an official nationwide holiday.
