Ho Chi Minh City is accelerating investment procedures for the Võ Văn Kiệt Avenue extension project with a total investment of nearly 19.4 trillion dong, aimed at increasing interregional connectivity toward Tay Ninh Province. The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has directed the Department of Construction to urgently complete investment procedures, appraisal, and approval of the investment policy. According to the plan, the project is scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2026 and be completed in the fourth quarter of 2027. Our correspondent’s observations show that many components of the project are still incomplete after a long pause in construction. At the end point of Võ Văn Kiệt Avenue, where it intersects Le Duc Anh Street, the entrance to the new route is blocked by large concrete blocks. Behind it is a cleared area, waiting for the project to restart. Notably, a branch road that had been constructed previously extends only more than 80 meters before stopping in a grassy area. The roadbed has been paved but ends abruptly at an empty plot, creating a contrast between the large‑scale infrastructure project and the surrounding abandoned landscape. At the start of the route, some bridge piers under construction have deteriorated. Currently, Võ Văn Kiệt Avenue is about 13 km long, 60 meters wide with 6–10 lanes, extending from the Calmette Bridge area to the National Highway 1 interchange. The route lies on an East–West transport axis including Võ Văn Kiệt – Saigon River tunnel – Mai Chí Thọ, and has been in operation since 2009. Upon completion, the extended route is expected to shorten goods transport times, reduce pressure on existing traffic corridors, and open up new development space for the western area of Ho Chi Minh City. According to the design, the entire route will include six river, canal, and drainage crossings: Cầu Cái Trung, Cầu Hưng Nhơn (Section 1); Cầu Láng Le – Bàu Cò, Cầu Kênh A (Section 2); and two canal crossings An Hạ – Xáng An Hạ and Kênh A (Section 3). At the start of the route, some bridge piers under construction have deteriorated. However, compensation and land clearance remain a major challenge as many households in the project area have lived there for many years. Currently, the route’s start shows sections with piers deteriorating and the project faces ongoing development challenges.
Premium gym chains are entering a “golden era” that is ending or already in decline, as rising operating costs collide with shifting consumer preferences toward more flexible, community-based ways to exercise. Long-term memberships are shrinking, margins are pressured by higher rents and facility expenses, and competition from smaller, more personalized…
