National Assembly passes resolution to elect six Vice Presidents of the National Assembly for the XVI term, 2026-2031

The National Assembly, in its session on 6 April 2026, passed resolutions to elect key leadership positions for the XVI term, with voting results indicating broad support across all ballots.

Vice Presidents and Standing Committee elected for the XVI term

With 496 out of 496 delegates voting in favor (100% of those present and 99.20% of the total), the National Assembly approved a resolution to elect the Vice Presidents of the National Assembly for the XVI term. Six individuals were named: Đỗ Văn Chiến, Nguyễn Khắc Định, Nguyễn Thị Thanh, Nguyễn Hồng Diên, Nguyễn Doãn Anh, and Nguyễn Thị Hồng.

Separately, with 487 out of 487 delegates voting in favor (97.40% of the total), the National Assembly passed a resolution to elect members of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly for the XVI term. The elected members are: Lâm Văn Mẫn, Phan Chí Hiếu, Phan Văn Mãi, Lê Tấn Tới, Nguyễn Đắc Vinh, Nguyễn Thanh Hải, Nguyễn Hữu Đông, Lê Thị Nga, Lê Quang Mạnh, Hoàng Duy Chinh, and Vũ Hải Hà.

Under the resolution on the number of Standing Committee members for the XVI term, the Standing Committee will comprise 18 people: the Chairman of the National Assembly, six Vice Chairs, and eleven members.

Afternoon elections: Council, committees, and senior posts

In the afternoon session, based on the nomination list from the Standing Committee of the XVI National Assembly, the National Assembly proceeded with procedures to elect the Chair of the National Assembly’s Council for Ethnic Minorities, the Chairs of the National Assembly’s committees, the State Auditor General, and the Secretary General of the National Assembly—Head of the National Assembly Office.

Council for Ethnic Minorities

With 493 out of 493 delegates present voting in favor (98.60%), the National Assembly passed the resolution to elect the Chair of the National Assembly’s Council for Ethnic Minorities. The elected positions and names included:

• Chair of the National Assembly’s Council for Ethnic Minorities: Lâm Văn Mẫn
• Chair of the Legal and Judicial Committee: Phan Chí Hiếu
• Chair of the Economic and Financial Committee: Phan Văn Mãi
• Chair of the Defense, Security and External Affairs Committee: Lê Tấn Tới
• Chair of the Culture and Social Affairs Committee: Nguyễn Đắc Vinh
• Chair of the Science, Technology and Environment Committee: Nguyễn Thanh Hải
• Chair of the Committee on Deputies and Supervisory: Nguyễn Hữu Đông
• Chair of the Committee on Public Feedback: Lê Thị Nga

Secretary General and State Auditor General

The National Assembly also passed a resolution electing the Secretary General of the National Assembly—Head of the Office of the National Assembly—for Lê Quang Mạnh, with 481 out of 481 delegates voting in favor (96.20%).

For the 2026–2031 term, the National Assembly passed a resolution electing the State Auditor General for Nguyễn Hữu Nghĩa, with 485 out of 485 delegates voting in favor (97.00%).

Chair of the National Assembly and related update

Mr. Trần Thanh Mẫn was reelected as Chair of the National Assembly for the XVI term.

The share of full-time deputies reached the highest level to date.
