Today, the National Assembly will elect the President and the Prime Minister for the 2026–2031 term. On 7 April, the First Session of the 16th National Assembly began its second working day, including the election process for the top executive posts and the review and approval of the Government’s organizational structure for the 2026–2031 term.
From 8:00 to 9:15, the National Assembly will hold a private session. The Standing Committee will report the results of approving personnel for Vice Chairs of the National Assembly, Deputy Heads, and Members who are full-time delegates at agencies of the National Assembly.
At the same time, the Standing Committee will present the list of nominations for the National Assembly to elect the President. The National Assembly will discuss, vote to approve the list, and then elect the President by secret ballot. The ballot counting committee will report the results.
From 9:15 to 9:45, the session will be televised and broadcast live. The Standing Committee will present the draft Resolution on the election of the President. The National Assembly will discuss, hear explanations, absorb amendments, and vote to pass the Resolution.
The President will then take the oath and deliver the inaugural address.
From 9:45 to 10:45, the National Council for Ethnic Affairs and parliamentary committees will meet to carry out tasks within their authority.
From 10:45 to 11:30, the National Assembly will meet privately to hear the Government’s presentation on the Government’s organization for the 2026–2031 term. It will also hear appraisal reports of the Legal and Judicial Committees, then discuss, explain, absorb amendments, and vote to approve the Resolution on the Government’s organizational structure for the 2026–2031 term.
From 14:00 to 15:00, the National Assembly will meet privately. The President will present the list of nominations for the Prime Minister, Vice President, Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court, and the Prosecutor General. The National Assembly will discuss, vote to approve the list, and conduct a secret ballot for the Prime Minister. The ballot counting committee will report the results.
From 15:00 to 15:30, the session will be televised. The Standing Committee will present the draft Resolution on the election of the Prime Minister. The National Assembly will discuss, hear explanations, absorb amendments, and vote to pass the Resolution.
The Prime Minister will take the oath and deliver the inaugural address.
From 15:30, the National Assembly will meet privately to elect the Vice President, Chief Justice, and Prosecutor General by secret ballot. The ballot counting committee will report the results.
From 16:40 to 17:10, the session will be televised. The Standing Committee will present the draft Resolution on the election of the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. The National Assembly will discuss, hear explanations, absorb amendments, and vote to pass the Resolution. The Chief Justice will take the oath and deliver the inaugural address.
From 17:10, the National Assembly will meet privately to consider and vote on the resolutions electing the Vice President and the Prosecutor General.
The National Assembly also approved the resolution to elect six Vice Presidents of the National Assembly for the 2026–2031 term.
