On 7 April 2026, the National Assembly will begin the process of electing the President and the Prime Minister. The agenda for the First Session of the 16th National Assembly includes a sequence of private meetings, committee reports, plenary votes, and oath-taking ceremonies.
In the morning, the Assembly will meet in private to hear the Standing Committee report on the results of approvals for personnel, including the Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly, Deputy Heads, and members representing standing committees. The Standing Committee will then present the nomination list for the position of President.
Following the nomination presentation, the National Assembly will hold a plenary session to approve the resolution electing the President. After approval, the President will take the oath and deliver an inaugural address.
During the same morning session, the Parliament will hear the Prime Minister for the 2021–2026 term. The Prime Minister will present a draft on the Government’s organizational structure for the 2026–2031 term.
The Chair of the Legal-Affairs Committee will then present the verification report on the Government’s organizational structure. The National Assembly will discuss and vote on the draft resolution regarding the Government’s organizational structure for the 2026–2031 term.
In the afternoon, the Assembly will proceed with appointing the Prime Minister, Vice President, Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court, and Prosecutor General. The Prime Minister will then be elected by secret ballot.
The House will later meet in private to report the vote results and hold a plenary session to approve the draft resolution on the Prime Minister’s election. Immediately after approval, the Prime Minister will take the oath and deliver the inaugural speech.
The Parliament will continue private sessions to handle other matters, including the election of the Vice President, Chief Justice, and Prosecutor General.
