Domestic gold prices continued to decline this morning, falling an additional 600,000–900,000 dong per tael. SJC gold bars were quoted around 172.5 million dong per tael.
Saigon Jewelry Co. (SJC), together with Phu Quy Group and Doji, quoted SJC bars at 169.5 million dong per tael on the bid side and 172.5 million dong per tael on the ask side.
At Phu Quy, gold rings traded between 169 million dong and 172 million dong per tael on bid-ask, down 900,000 dong per tael from April 7.
Bao Tin Minh Chau Jewelry priced rings at 168.1–171.1 million dong per tael (buying/selling), unchanged from the close on April 6.
The buy-sell spread remained high at about 3 million dong per tael.
At 9:30 a.m., the world gold price was around 4,639 USD per ounce. Using Vietcombank’s USD rate, this corresponded to about 147.3 million dong per tael. The SJC domestic gold price was still about 25.2 million dong per tael higher than the world price.
On the same day, the State Bank of Vietnam set the central exchange rate at 25,108 VND/USD, up 2 from April 6.
Commercial banks’ USD rates also increased by 2 from the close on April 6, with Vietcombank at 26,113–26,363 VND/USD (buy/sell), VietinBank and BIDV at 26,143–26,363 VND/USD, and Eximbank at 26,120–26,363 VND/USD.
