On the afternoon of April 7, during the First Session of the 16th National Assembly, with 485 of 485 deputies present voting in favor, the Assembly approved a resolution to elect Võ Thị Ánh Xuân as Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. She was re-elected for the 2026–2031 term.
The National Assembly resolved that Võ Thị Ánh Xuân—currently a standing member of the Party Central Committee and Vice President for the 2021–2026 term, and a deputy of the 16th National Assembly—will hold the Vice President office for the 2026–2031 term.
Võ Thị Ánh Xuân was born on January 8, 1970, from Thới Sơn Ward, An Giang Province. Her qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry Education, a Master’s degree in Public Administration, and a Bachelor’s degree in Political Theory.
She is a standing member of the 14th Party Central Committee and an official member of the Party Central Committee for the 12th, 13th, and 14th terms. She has also served as an alternate member of the Central Committee for the 11th term and has been a deputy of the 14th, 15th, and 16th National Assemblies.
Her prior roles include two periods as Acting President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam: from January 2023 to March 2023, and from March 2024 to May 2024. Since January 2026, she has been a standing member of the Party Central Committee and Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and a deputy of the 16th National Assembly.
Also on the afternoon of April 7, the 16th National Assembly approved the appointment of the Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate for the 2026–2031 term. With 474 of 474 deputies present voting in favor, the Assembly appointed Mr. Nguyễn Huy Tiến.
Accordingly, Mr. Nguyễn Huy Tiến—an official member of the CPV Central Committee—will serve as Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate for the 2026–2031 term.
Mr. Nguyễn Huy Tiến was born on September 9, 1968, in Đông Quan Commune, Hung Yen Province (formerly Đông Tân, Đông Hưng District, Thái Bình Province). He holds a Doctor of Law, with political theory: Advanced.
He is a standing member of the CPV Central Committee for the 14th term and a deputy to the 16th National Assembly. He is also a member of the Standing Committee of the Central Committee for Central Agencies, Secretary of the Party Committee, and Prosecutor General for the 2021–2026 term.
Immediately after the approvals, Vice President Võ Thị Ánh Xuân and Prosecutor General Nguyễn Huy Tiến appeared before the National Assembly to take their oaths.
The President of the National Assembly, Trần Thanh Mẫn, on behalf of the leadership of the Party, State, and National Assembly deputies, presented flowers to congratulate the Vice President and the Prosecutor General.
