In its afternoon session on April 7, 2026, the National Assembly approved a resolution appointing Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the 2026–2031 term, with 496 of 496 deputies present.
Immediately after the election, Chief Justice Nguyen Van Quang took the oath before the National Assembly. Swearing before the National Assembly, the people and voters nationwide, he pledged: “I pledge absolute loyalty to the Fatherland, to the people, to the Constitution of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam; I will strive to fulfill well the duties entrusted by the Party, State and people.”
The resolution was approved during the April 7, 2026 afternoon session. Following the election, Chief Justice Nguyen Van Quang formally took the oath before the National Assembly.
Nguyen Van Quang was born in 1969 in Hai Phong. He holds a high-level degree in political theory and a Doctor of Law.
He is the Secretary of the Party Central Committee (14th tenure) and a member of the Party Central Committee for the 13th and 14th tenures. He is also a deputy to the 15th and 16th National Assemblies.
In his current roles, he serves as Secretary of the Party Committee and Chief Justice of the Supreme People’s Court.
His career includes positions such as Deputy Prosecutor General of the Supreme People’s Procuracy; Deputy Secretary then Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee; and Acting Inspector General, then Permanent Inspector General of the Government Inspectorate.
