Authorities in Vietnam are seeking public input on a proposal to apply a 50% discount on landing and take-off fees for international airlines operating regular services to Long Thành International Airport in Đồng Nai province.
The draft proposal would reduce the landing and take-off service price (CHC) by 50% for airlines that operate regular international flights to Long Thành airport. The discounted rate would apply for 24 months from the airport’s official operation date.
To qualify for the stimulus pricing, airlines must commit to maintaining continuous operations for at least 12 months.
The policy would not apply to airlines that have operated at Tan Sơn Nhất within the year prior to Long Thành’s opening. Authorities also said new airports prepared to operate nationwide would be eligible for similar 50% price reductions to attract investment and support operations.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, most enterprises expressed strong agreement with the proposed direction. Authorities are continuing to collect broad feedback to balance the interests of the service provider and airport users.
The fee discount is described as an initial step within a broader strategy to position Long Thành as a model for modern, sustainable, and smart aviation infrastructure.
The Long Thành International Airport project was approved by the National Assembly in 2015, with total investment of over 16 billion USD. The airport is planned on nearly 5,000 hectares in Đồng Nai and is divided into three phases.
When completed, the airport is expected to have 4 runways and 4 passenger terminals.
Under the ministry’s orientation, Long Thành is expected to operate in tandem with Tan Sơn Nhất under an “international airport pair” model. Long Thành is projected to handle about 80% of international flights and 10% of domestic flights, while Tan Sơn Nhất would mainly operate short-haul routes in the region.
